Test & Tag Perth
KRC Electrical offers testing and tagging services for all residential and commercial grade equipment. This safety process involves checking all electrical appliances to ensure it’s safe to use. KRC uses a two-part method when it comes to testing and tagging. The first is a visual inspection of the appliance. This is where our trained technicians look for any visual damage on the appliance. Once that's completed, they use a portable appliance tester to test the machine electrically. From this they can identify any potential electrical faults.
Service safety inspections should be regularly performed by all organisations with electrical equipment. Equipment testing can ensure the safety of the workplace as well as the employees regularly using the equipment. A safety inspection and test can minimise the risk of an electrical hazard before it happens as well as identify defective equipment.
Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760 highlights the necessary guidelines and regulations for the testing of all electrical equipment. This standard outlines and defines test dates and who can be deemed as a competent person to carry out tests and tags of electrical appliances.
Why Test & Tags are Important
Construction, demolition and mining industries are required to have all appliances tested and tagged approximately every 3 months. It's important to have these safety checks done on for all electrical installations construction and demolition sites. This is due to the harsh nature of the industry where equipment is constantly used and is likely to deteriorate faster than usual. Throughout the year, the test and tag colours of your appliance will change. This ensures that your test tag colour coincides with that specific period.
Excluding the construction, demolition and mining industries, testing and tagging is not a legislative requirement for the workplace. Although, the duty of care to ensure the safety of the employees within a workplace is the duty of the employer. Therefore, if someone was hurt from an appliance that wasn't tested and is unsafe there would be an issue. So the employer then must ensure all electrical equipment is safe to use.
Who Can Test & Tag?
You don't have to be a licensed electrician to perform testing and tagging services. According to AS/NZS 3760 2010 in services relating to testing and tagging, the tester must be considered as a "competent person". All KRC Electrical employees have undergone a test and tag course. This course has provided them with the skills and knowledge to carry out such services.
